Think of times when stories have helped you better understand a concept. Maybe your teacher used a real example to explain a math problem. Stories help integrate abstract concepts and simplify complex messages. Taking a long, intangible concept and connecting it to tangible ideas is one of the greatest strengths of storytelling in business. Take Apple, for example. Very complex topics like computers and smart phones can be difficult to explain to ordinary customers. They have been able to describe the usefulness of their products to users using real stories. Instead of relying on technical terms that few customers understand, Apple uses storytelling . Stories promote and shape ideas Throughout history, people have used stories to promote cooperation and influence social behavior. There is scientific evidence that stories can change people's behavior. Stories engage our emotions. So, even if you are stressed and isolated, you can still relate to a story.




This connection may make you less critical of facts, less defensive, and easier to change your ideas. Data is phone numbers list powerful, but data without storytelling can lead to confusion, frustration, and conflict of opinion. This is because listening to stories engages different parts of the brain than data. When you tell a story, you ask someone to see a series of events from your point of view. When brands become transparent and authentic, they help customers connect with them and others. Creating a narrative about your brand or product not only makes it acceptable to people, but also markets your business. Few brands use this as a sales tactic, but ModCloth does it well. The characteristics of good stories are: Entertaining: Good stories keep the user engaged and interested in what happens next. Believable: Good stories convince the user of reality and make engagement easy. Educational: good stories arouse curiosity and add to the user's knowledge.
