The issue related to the participation of women in technology positions is increasingly present. Because the changing environment in which we live requires quick responses and solutions.
In the last five years, the participation of women in Information Technology (IT) has doubled in Latin America, an advance that still has a way to go.
While it is true that over the years the Telegram Number Data technology sector has been led by men, trends in the industry have changed significantly in recent years. For this reason, the number of women in leadership positions in the industry has grown considerably.
According to a report offered by UNESCO, in 2016 the participation of women in the sector was 16%, and today it is around 30%. The organization argues that: “Gender labor equity is a key aspect not only in economic matters, but also for the development of innovation processes within companies.”
Meanwhile, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in Peru assures that less than 10% of women work in the technology sector in Peru. Furthermore, only 8% have a preference to study a career related to computer science.
In the study published in 2021 under the title “Women in Technology”, a relevant point is touched upon in which it is highlighted that lack of flexibility for working mothers. This would be a key aspect to increase female participation in the sector.

Women are affected by the wage gap
According to the data presented by the INEI, the gap also occurs in the salary scale. Between May and July 2021, the average monthly income of men was S/ 1,769 while that of women was S/ 1,354. This translates into a (gross) wage gap of 23.5% between the two.

According to the company, it currently has 40% women in its different subsidiaries in Latin America. They ensure that work capacity and talent are the main reason for entering a position.
The company implemented the program Softline FemTech, which promotes leadership and equity in women, through talks and participation as panelists of the company leaders.
“This program will be reinforced during 2022 with new initiatives and activities aimed at highlighting the role of women in the IT industry in Latam. Likewise, we have a gradual return to the office benefit for mothers that we have already implemented in Argentina, and will soon be implemented in other countries in the region,” explained the Marketing Director for Softline in Latin America, Miriam Strelczuk.
